Trainee HGV Driver

Are you looking to start your driving career? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We have a vacancy for a Trainee HGV Driver to learn the ropes from our experienced Shunter Operators – based in Corpach, Fort William.

The successful applicant will work alongside our current team whilst completing a Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles. In due course, you will gain support and training to work towards your HGV Class 1 Licence.

As a Trainee HGV Driver, your duties will include:

  • Driving works vehicles and other company vehicles, plant and machinery as necessary according to licence provision and training
  • Driving vehicles with attachment trailers when necessary: attachments to include: flatbeds, curtain siders, occasional drop-sided trailers, low loaders, tanker trailers, forestry pin trailers
  • Maintaining and updating training to drive artic and rigid vehicles to comply with company needs and legislation and to be available for training which may also be at weekends and mat on occasions be on employees own time
  • Loading with care, general cargo including forestry products, round wood (as per round wood Code of Practice and Company Handbook), fertiliser, concrete products, steel and paper products and any other cargo required
  • Ensuring safe and secure loading of cargo at commencement and throughout duration of the journey to off-loading cargo

You will need to have:

  • A valid UK driving licence (car)
  • A positive attitude to work and prepared to follow company policies and procedures
