Health & Safety Officer
We have an excellent opportunity for a Health & Safety Officer, based in Fort William.
About the job
The candidate will be based at our Head Office in Corpach, Fort William and will report to Head of Safety & Compliance. They will be responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of H&S operations throughout the entire business, therefore travelling and overnight stays will be required from time to time to fulfil this role.
The role will include, but is not confined to:
- Undertake scheduled safety inspections at all depots / yards / premises.
- Interface with our port and pier operations and with our DPA for marine and port activities.
- Keep abreast of any changes or amendments to H&S or Corporate Social Responsibilities legislation and communicate these to staff members when required.
- Undertake annual audits of the Health & Safety inspections and follow up on actions.
- Review risk assessments as required and provide advice to risk owners regarding legislative requirements and industry best practices concerning risk control measures.
- Provide input to the annual review of the Health & Safety policy.
- Prepare new safety / working procedures in collaboration with risk owners for all aspects of the business when required.
- Contribution to and / or lead incident investigation.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience / background in an operational H&S role.
- NEBOSH General Certification as a minimum.
- Experience / recognised qualification in internal auditing would be an advantage.
- Demonstratable experience and a formal qualification in Incident Investigation / Root Cause Analysis (Kelvin TOP-SET / TapRoot etc.)
- Strong IT skills in Microsoft applications and happy to learn / develop IT skills.
- Good communication skills, with a flexible approach to work.
- The ability to multi-task and prioritise workload.
