Shunter Driver

Ferguson Transport & Shipping is currently recruiting for a Shunter Driver to join their team based at Corpach, Fort William. Full training will be provided.

This progressive role will provide support and training to go on to gain an HGV Class 1 Licence in due course.

Duties will include:

  • Forklift Operations
  • Operating Terberg Works Vehicle
  • Roping and Sheeting of loads

As a Shunting Driver you will:

  • drive Works vehicles as necessary according to licence provision
  • drive Works vehicles with a variety of attachment trailers when necessary
  • load with care, general cargo including forestry products, fertiliser, steel and paper products and any other cargo required
  • ensure safe and secure loading and unloading
  • move trailers around site using a Terberg shunt unit.

Full training will be provided, however previous experience within a similar work environment or with forklift operations would be an advantage.

General Haulage Drivers

We are currently recruiting for HGV Drivers.  This is a great opportunity for drivers who enjoy working for a prestigious logistics company, driving a modern and well maintained fleet of vehicles and who are looking for flexibility in their life. We offer a variety of shift patterns: Day shift, Night shift, nights out, 4 on/4 off and 4 on/2 off, Ad-hoc, on full or part time contracts.

Locations

We operate from several locations throughout the UK and have strategically positioned ourselves near to major cities, which allows quicker and easier access to customers and major transports route. These include:

  • West Highland (Corpach/Fort William, Isle of Skye, Mallaig & Kishorn)
  • North Highland (Inverness, Invergordon & Boat of Garten)
  • Central Scotland (Grangemouth, Methil, Linwood)
  • England (Carlisle)

The Job

  • Full Time or Part Time Hours (Relief/Cover) are available:
  • To drive HGV1 vehicles with attachment trailers when necessary: attachments to include: Flatbeds, curtain siders, occasional drop-sided trailers, low loaders, tanker trailers, forestry pin trailers
  • To maintain and update training to drive artic and rigid vehicles to comply with Company needs and legislation and to be available for training which may also be at weekends and mat on occasions be on employees own time
  • To load with care, general cargo including forestry products, round wood (as per round wood Code of Practice and Company Handbook), fertiliser, concrete products, steel and paper products and any other cargo required
  • To ensure safe and secure loading of cargo at commencement and throughout duration of the journey to off-loading cargo
  • To ensure safety of other employees and members of the Public when travelling with cargo
  • To undertake to complete all necessary daily checks/records and proper use of tacho cards when carrying cargo on Company business and fill in appropriate paperwork correctly

Key Requirements

  • Clean HGV Class 1 (CE) Licence
  • Experience of Timber Haulage would be desirable for Forestry Crane Operator positions
  • You will be delivering to outdoor sites mainly so an aspect of the work will be outside in all weather conditions
  • Working as part of a team is a must so we are looking for someone who is eager to engage with others to get the task at hand done.
